Felipe and Mariano Conde are descendants of the famous builder Domingo Estesso. Their uncle was one of the original Conde Hermanos guitar builders of which there were three. The young luthiers are recognized today as two of the finest builders of flamenco guitars in the world. If you are in Madrid be sure to stop by calle Felipe V right by the Teatro Real to see their guitars.
Not known by many are the extraordinary classical guitars made by Felipe and Mariano Conde. I have sold many and do go to Spain often to pick out particular instruments for professional players.
This guitar is an 8-string classical. I saw it in a showcase at their shop and tried it. I was amazed at the power and clarity from this instrument. Often in 8-string construction the sound can get muddy or stay inside the box. I believe that because of the flamenco background of the builders this guitar came out with a strong projecting sound. The Brazilian rosewood has some problem with checking on the bottom of the guitar and may need to be repaired at some point. The brothers said that they would do it. Thus the price is reflective of this detail. The normal price in Spain for this guitar is around $5,200.00. This is a bargain at $3,000.
