Badi Assad is a young, beautiful Brazilian woman (see picture) who is about to make a major breakthrough in popular music. Although she is an accomplished classical guitarist and the sister of Sergio and Odair Assad the great guitar duo, her talent is unique and not to be confussed with being "just another guitar player". If you can imagine a person playing difficult popular and jazz tunes and singing and rhymically moving to her oun infectious rhythms you are getting close. But the music is something that is truly unique to her. She is sensitive, virtuostic, sexy, childlike, cerebral and crazy. Not only is the singing charming, she makes unusual animalistic sounds with her mouth which fit into the musical scheme and harmonic concepts.
The combination is beautifully represented on this CD. She plays a Thomas
Humphrey "Millenium" guitar and the performance is recorded without overdubbing
in a church. The recording has superior tonal quality with none of the harshness
in the high end so often heard in the digital domain. This recording certainly
will get you interested in following this artists career.
